What is Data Science all about in 2020?
For in
Hearing about the word “Data Science”, the first thing that strikes our mind is “Study of Data”. It is all about recording, storing, and analysing data to effectively extract information from raw data. In this era data science is the technology behind handling and manipulating the world’s data.
Do you know ? The world is dealing with 1.7 Mb of data generated every second by each individual. You need to understand, process and analyse the data to extract useful information.
Real-time example
You must have heard about self-driving vehicles used for an ease in transportation and reduce deaths caused by accidents. Autonomous vehicles need to take a lot of decisions right from the route they need to travel and the vehicle dynamics to the traffic around them. All of these need a lot of data and hence data science comes into picture.
Another example will be our Google Maps that helps us navigate to our destination. All we do is choose our initial location and the destination and the Map generates the fastest route. But in the backend there are numerous processes that run. Firstly, the different possible routes are identified and the present road conditions are monitored. Then, the traffic congestions, tolls etc are taken into consideration and therefore, we navigate through the best route.
Considering the present scenario of Covid-19, Data science plays a major role in the pandemic. Data analyst collected the data of the Covid-19 affected patients from all over the world for a detailed analysis of the Covid situation in each country. This also helps the common citizen get details about the cases and take necessary preventive measure.
How important is Data Science today?
Back in 1962, Mathematician John W. Turkey predicted data analysis as an empirical science but the term was coined in 2001. Data Science was exploded in 2010 when businesses required a detailed study on Big Data. It is gaining momentum as various start-ups are adopting innovations driven for data-technologies. Today everything we see around involves data management and hence data scientists are in demand. You show be aware that Data Science and Machine Learning is interrelated and all involve data. “Data Science” is the most demanded job in 2020.

What is it to become a Data Scientist?
Data Scientists are the Avengers
The boom
Data Science gained a lot of importance because :-
- Firstly, there is a huge amount of data generated everywhere
- Secondly, the increase in computing capabilities, IoT, Robotics and Automation.
Data Science is not only the most demanded job but there is a shortage of knowledgeable Data Scientist as well.An average Data Scientist salary is $130,000 per annum but this requires advanced education. Every job sector needs a Data Scientist expert virtually —not just in technology.
Some of the prominent Data Science job titles are:
